Why a Permanent Metin2 Pserver Archive Exists

Most Metin2 toplists delete dead servers. The reasoning is simple: a ranking page only ranks playable servers, so why keep the rest? The cost of that decision is that an entire decade of community history quietly vanishes. Player screenshots reference servers no one can identify. Old YouTube videos mention names that return zero search results. Modders who want to research what custom systems worked in 2017 have no way of reconstructing the scene.

This archive solves that. Once a server is registered, its record is preserved even after it shuts down. Visit a closed server's archive page and you'll still see the original title, the original description, the recorded launch date, the type, the last-known feature set, and where applicable a snapshot of the server's banner from when it was live. The contact links and the website almost certainly no longer work, but the historical context survives.

What the Archive Actually Contains

The archive page surfaces every registered server in one searchable list, with no filtering by online/offline status. That means you'll find:

Currently active servers alongside their historical record. The toplist gives you the live ranking; the archive gives you the history.
Servers that closed permanently, with their last-known data intact. Some closed cleanly with an announcement; some disappeared overnight. Both are preserved equally.
Servers temporarily offline, often during a wipe, a relaunch, or an extended maintenance window. Some of these come back. Some don't.
Historical statistics: launch date, total registered votes over the server's lifetime, peak ranking position where tracked, total comments, lifespan in months.
Original metadata: server descriptions, feature tags (PvP / PvM / Yohara / max level), the original title the admin chose, social-media links as they were registered.

Practical Uses for the Archive

Check a name before you launch. If you're starting a new Metin2 server, the worst thing you can do is reuse a name that already has a reputation. The archive tells you whether your candidate name belonged to a beloved server that 1,000 nostalgic players will misremember as "the good Metin2", a vote-farming scam that got banned, or nothing at all. Pick clean names with no historical baggage.
Research server-admin history. If a new server appears with admin nicks you recognise from somewhere, search the archive for those names against the past server descriptions. A team that ran two successful servers before is a much safer bet than a team whose previous three projects all closed within 30 days.
Trend research. Researchers, content creators and modders use the archive to track which features became popular in which year, average server lifespan across different content eras (old-school vs. Yohara vs. Champion Level), and how the Metin2 pserver scene has shifted regionally over time.
Player nostalgia. Find the server you played in 2018 even if you only half-remember the name. The combination of full-text search across thousands of historical descriptions and the preserved tags usually surfaces it within a few tries.
Reviewing your own server's history. If you are a current server admin who has been registered for a while, the archive shows your full lifetime stats and any past relaunches under the same name.

Limitations of the Archive

An archive is not a live database. Several things won't be accurate, and we'd rather tell you up front than have you discover them by clicking dead links:

Outdated server descriptions. A description written in 2019 may reference content the server never delivered. There is no editorial pass; the text is whatever the admin saved at the time.
Dead website links. The vast majority of closed servers' websites are now expired domains, parked pages or unrelated content. We deliberately don't strip these links because they're part of the historical record. Treat any outbound link from a closed server's archive page as untrusted.
Incomplete early data. Entries from 2014-2016 are sparser. Some early servers have only a name and a launch date because the platform itself didn't capture richer metadata yet.
No real-time status. The "online" label on a server in the archive reflects what the system recorded most recently, not a live ping. For genuinely current information, use the live toplist.
No banner preservation guarantee. Some old banner files have been lost over the years. The archive page falls back to a default image when this happens.

Archive vs. Live Toplist: When to Use Which

You want to play right now: use the Metin2 Pserver Toplist. It ranks active servers by community votes, with full live data.
You want to find a specific server you played in the past: use this archive. Search by name; the toplist won't show you a closed server.
You want to pick a name for a new server: check the archive first to avoid name collisions and reputation baggage. Then register through the standard signup.
You want to research the scene at scale: the archive is your data source. Lifespans, feature trends, regional spreads, all derived from this dataset.

Permanent record: once a Metin2 Pserver is registered, its archive entry stays forever. This is by design. A server going offline doesn't erase the years it ran or the players who played there. Closure is part of a server's history, not a reason to scrub it.

Picking a new server name? Search this archive first. Names with bad historical baggage (scam servers, banned admins, cash-grab launches) carry that reputation forward whether you intended it or not. A clean unique name saves you the launch-week awkwardness of explaining "we're not THAT server".
