Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about how Metin2Pserver.net works, how voting, ranking and backlinks are calculated, what server admins can and cannot do, plus general questions about Metin2 private servers.
How the toplist works
What is Metin2Pserver.net?
Metin2Pserver.net is a community-curated toplist of Metin2 private servers (pservers). Every server you see here was submitted by its own admin and is ranked by real player votes. We have been running since 2014 and remain one of the longest-lived ranking sites for the Metin2 scene.
How is the ranking calculated?
Ranking is recalculated from real player votes plus a small bonus for verified backlinks. Each unique IP can vote once every 23h. Vote totals decay so a server cannot stay #1 forever without an active player base. Servers that link back to us on their homepage get a daily bonus of +100 Votes/day. Ranking refreshes continuously throughout the day.
Why do I see different servers on top at different times of day?
Vote bursts from different time zones move servers up and down. Servers with international player bases tend to stay near the top consistently, while regional servers spike when their home time zone is awake.
Is the toplist free to use?
Yes. Browsing, voting, registering an account, listing your server, and earning verified-backlink votes are all 100% free. We never charge to be listed and we never charge for vote boosts. The only paid feature is the optional top-of-page banner advertisement, and every penny of that goes to charity via tiltify.com.
How are events and changelogs surfaced?
Server admins can post in-game events (with a start and end date, up to 6 weeks long) and changelog entries from their server panel. Active events appear on /events and on the homepage; upcoming events are also listed up to 6 weeks before they start. Changelogs appear on the server detail page.
Voting
How often can I vote?
Once every 23 Hours per IP address, per server. You can vote for as many different servers as you like inside that window, but you cannot vote twice for the same server inside it.
Why was my vote rejected?
A vote can be rejected for a few reasons:
- You already voted for this server from this IP within the last 23h.
- You failed the captcha or your captcha session expired (refresh the page and try again).
- Your IP is on a known abuse list (botnet, residential proxy farm, repeated cheating).
- The server is currently disabled, in moderation, or marked offline.
Do I have to register to vote?
No. Voting works anonymously per IP. A registered account is only needed if you want to list a server, write reviews, or manage advertisements.
Can I get a vote-reward (Vote4Buff) on my server?
Yes. Each server has its own API token plus a sample PHP integration script under "API / Vote4Buff" in the panel. The integration is a single endpoint your CMS calls to verify whether the player voted, then you grant them an in-game buff or item. Documentation and the example code are available inside your server panel.
I tried to cheat the votes and got banned. Can I appeal?
In most cases, no. We detect bot patterns, VPN/proxy abuse, repeated farm IPs and cross-account chaining automatically and the offending server is removed. The community relies on votes meaning something; if you cheat once, the trust is gone. Contact us on Discord only if you genuinely believe you were caught in a false-positive.
Adding & managing your server
How do I add my Metin2 server?
Register an account, then click "Add server" in your server panel. You will need: a server name (4-30 chars), a startup date, a primary website URL, and a short title. After submission you can fill in the long description, set features (PvP/PvM, schools, Yohara, etc.), upload a banner, and add up to 3 Website URLs and social links.
One account can list up to 1 Servers.
What banner formats and sizes are allowed?
Banner size is 468 × 190 px, max 1 MB. Allowed formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, MP4, WebM. Videos play muted on loop. The server detail page also shows a mobile-optimised JPG version that is auto-generated from your upload.
Do you translate my server description automatically?
Yes, when you enable auto-translate in the panel. We use Claude (Anthropic) to translate your English title, short description and full description into all other supported locales. The translator only retriggers when your English text changes by more than 20% and there is a 1-day cooldown to prevent burning credits on tiny edits.
You can also manually edit any translation in the server panel and override the AI output.
What is the short description for?
The short description is a one-line tagline (80-140 chars is the sweet spot) shown directly under your server name on the detail page. It is the first thing players read. Keep it punchy and concrete: "International, max Lv 120, Old-school PvP/PvM, weekly events" beats vague marketing copy every time.
How do I delete my server listing?
In the panel, scroll to the very bottom of the server-edit page and use the Delete button. The deletion is irreversible. If you want to temporarily hide the server instead, untick the "Enabled" toggle, which keeps your data but removes the server from the public toplist.
Backlinks & verification
What is a verified backlink and why should I add one?
A verified backlink is a small piece of HTML you place on your server homepage that links to your detail page on Metin2Pserver.net. Once we detect it (usually within minutes), you get:
- +100 Free votes per day for as long as the link stays up.
- A green check mark on your toplist row and detail page so players trust the listing.
- Eligibility to purchase the top-of-page banner advertisement.
Setup takes about 5 minutes from your server panel under "Backlink".
My backlink is on my homepage but it says "not verified". Why?
Common causes:
- The link is inside an iframe, a JavaScript-loaded widget, or behind a login wall - our crawler fetches the raw HTML and runs no JS.
- The link points to a redirect, a tracker, or the wrong server-id URL.
- Your homepage returns 403/429 to crawlers, or has aggressive Cloudflare protection (we identify ourselves honestly).
- You added the link to a sub-page, not the homepage we crawl (the URL you registered as your primary website).
Use the "Check for backlink" button in the panel for an instant manual recheck.
Can I link to a competitor toplist as well?
You can - but it cancels your backlink bonus on Metin2Pserver.net and disqualifies you from purchasing the top-page banner. We award the bonus only to servers that link back to us exclusively among the major MMORPG toplists.
Advertising
How does the top banner advertisement work?
The top-banner ad is an 802 × 90 px Banner shown above every page of the toplist for one full week (Monday to Monday). There are up to 4 Slots per week. Price is £40 Per week. Every payment is donated 1:1 via tiltify.com - it is a charity slot, not a profit centre.
What are the requirements to buy an ad?
- A verified backlink on at least one of your servers.
- The server is online, or starts within 10 days.
- At least 110 votes (100 backlink + 10 organic).
- No active competitor toplist links.
- Banner content is decent, truthful, and your server page is translated into at least EN/RO/TR/DE without using Google Translate.
Can I book multiple consecutive weeks?
Yes - each week is a separate booking - with one fairness rule: the top 2 advertisers from the previous week cannot rebook the upcoming week immediately. They get a head-start gate so smaller servers have a real chance to grab a slot. From Wednesday onwards, if any slot is still free, the top 2 of last week may book it just like everyone else.
Sundays are excluded from new bookings; purchases for the next week resume Monday 00:00 CET.
My ad was removed. Why?
Banners are reviewed manually. We remove ads that exaggerate online-player counts, make false claims, use untranslated machine-generated copy, or violate the content rules shown when you upload. Refunds are not offered for removed ads because the money was already donated to charity.
Captcha & anti-cheat
Why do I have to solve a captcha to vote?
To keep the toplist honest. A vote that takes zero effort is worth nothing as a ranking signal, so we filter out bots and automated voting scripts. The captcha is our own, tuned for the Metin2 audience, and noticeably faster than reCAPTCHA or hCaptcha on weak hardware.
Can I use the captcha for my own server?
Yes, free of charge. The captcha is offered as a drop-in service for Metin2 game-client logins to block credential-stuffing attacks. Setup is available from your server panel; the documentation explains the integration points for Metin2 source distributions.
Accounts & reviews
Do I need an account to leave a review?
No, reviews and ratings are open to everyone — no account or registration required. We rate-limit per IP and run anti-spam filters, but you can drop a review on any server detail page right away. Reviews are public; server admins can reply but not delete.
How do I change my password or nickname?
From your account page (logged-in dropdown in the top right). Passwords are stored hashed and salted - we cannot tell you what your old password was; only reset it. Nicknames can be changed once every 7 days.
I forgot my password.
Use the Forgot password Page. You will receive a reset link by e-mail. Check your spam folder; the e-mail comes from the metin2pserver.net domain.
How do I delete my account?
Contact us via the Contact Page from the e-mail address that owns the account. We process deletion requests within a few business days. Listed servers tied to the account are unpublished at the same time.
General Metin2 Pserver questions
What is a Metin2 private server?
A Metin2 private server (Metin2 pserver, P-Server, P2P, or simply MT2 server) is a community-run server that emulates the original Metin2 by Ymir Entertainment. Pservers let players experience the game with their own custom mechanics, custom items, modified rates, fresh storylines, modern UI overhauls, or simply the classic 2007 feel that the official servers no longer offer.
Are Metin2 private servers legal?
Operating a Metin2 pserver sits in a legal grey zone that depends on local jurisdiction and whether the official rights-holder takes action. Players themselves are never the target of takedowns. This site lists servers strictly as a directory; we do not host any game files and we are not affiliated with Ymir Entertainment, Gameforge, Webzen, or any of their subsidiaries.
How do I pick a good Metin2 pserver?
Look for these signals on the detail page:
- The server has been online for more than a few months (steady playerbase).
- Recent changelogs (active development, not abandoned).
- Multiple positive user reviews from different players.
- A verified backlink (green check) - the admin actually owns the homepage they linked.
- Native translations in your language (not Google Translate output).
- Public Discord with real activity, not just a handful of bots.
Conversely, be wary of brand-new servers with thousands of votes overnight - that almost always means vote farming and the server is dead the moment you log in.
Why are some servers labelled as "speedservers"?
Speedservers are short, intentional seasons - typically 4 to 12 weeks - with very high rates and a clear end date. Players race to top characters, win a final event, and the server resets (or shuts down). They are great for short bursts of nostalgia without the multi-year grind of a permanent server.
I run a Metin2 server - can I add my Discord, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok?
Yes. The server-edit panel has dedicated fields for Discord invite, Facebook page, Instagram and TikTok. Only valid URLs on those platforms are accepted - we strip junk and validate the host on save.
Privacy, content & legal
What data do you collect about voters?
For votes: the timestamped IP and the chosen server, used only for cooldown enforcement and anti-cheat. For accounts: the e-mail and the hashed password. We do not sell data and we do not run third-party trackers. See the Privacy Policy For the full breakdown.
How do I report a server for malware, scams or harassment?
Use the report button on the server detail page (or the comments thread). Reports go into the moderation queue and are reviewed by admins. Confirmed malicious servers are removed and the admin account banned.
I am a rights-holder. How do I request takedown?
Send a formal DMCA-style notice via the Contact Page. Include: the IP-protected material, the offending listing URL on this site, proof of ownership, and your contact details. We process valid takedowns promptly. We do not host any game files - only directory listings.
Are reviews moderated?
Yes. Reviews containing slurs, doxxing, spam, or competitor poaching links are removed. Honest negative reviews are NOT removed, and we do not let server admins delete reviews on their own pages - they can only reply.
Still got a question?
If your question is not covered here, hop on the Discord or open the Contact Page. Server-admin support typically responds within 1 business day; players hop into the public channels.
